This past weekend marked the 13th annual Woofstock – North America’s largest outdoor festival for dogs!
Vendors and celebrity dogs came from all over North America to show off dog products, services, treats and toys. Every year the festival includes some amazing and adorable events and competitions that anyone can enter their dogs in, and one of the highlights is the Best Costume Contest! As with any costume the best ones are the ones that are a mix of a clever or funny idea, and an original or hand made costume. We were on site to capture the best entries and winner of Woofstock’s Best Costume 2016.
1. Maggie Blue as a Carnival dancer
2. Lola as a mermaid
Lola’s owner had-crocheted her entire outfit, and it only took her two days to make it! Now that’s a master of her craft at work.
Check out this close-up of the sea creatures crocheted into the mermaid tail: shrimp, lobster, octopus, stingray and a couple of starfish for good measure.
3. Maggie as Canadog
Woofstock may be North America’s largest dog festival… but since it takes place in Toronto, Canada, this patriotic tribute was quite fitting. Even her owner got in on the costume fun!
4. Padfoot as an ear of corn
Despite the corniness of this costume, it was very in-season and appropriate, as there was a stand selling roasted corn at the festival.
5. Cinnamon as a piñata
This was a very clever home made costume! Cinnamon made the smallest and cutest piñata! Now, if only there was candy involved…
6. Daisy as Beethoven
Her most famous work is the Dog Fur Elise.
7. Harry Pawter and friends
Yes, this dog’s name was Harry, and he was dressed as Harry Potter, with his humans as Hogwarts students. He had his glasses on, but it was so hot he was too busy panting to carry his wand in his mouth.
8. Billie Jean & Zora as Billie Idol and his white wedding bride
It’s a nice day for a dog wedding! It’s a nice day to… bark again.
9. Snickers & Sheridan as Snickers and Mars bars
These hand made costumes were deliciously detailed!
They even had their bar codes printed on the back!
And the Grand Prize winner was….
10. Guiness as the Chia Pet dog!
Honorable mention of the best store bought costume goes to Mr. Charlton, who was the cutest little Jack-o-Lantern ever.
