Pet parents know all to well the horrors of “skunking.” When a dog is “skunked,” they are covered in a horrible stench that penetrates and sticks to every material it comes in contact with. That’s why skunking is one of the worst things that could ever happen to your pup – and you!
There are many home recipes and products available for de-skunking, but not many are as effective as we would like them to be. Fortunately enough, the World of Angus team has found the ultimate de-skunking formula.
Want to learn how to get rid of that awful smell? Check out this tutorial!
Ingredients
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Liquid Dish Soap
4 cups 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
You will also need mixing bowls, a spatula, rubber gloves, and a bathtub!
Step 1
Measure 1/4 cup of baking soda, and pour into a large mixing bowl.
Step 2
In the same large mixing bowl, add 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap.
Step 3
Measure and add 4 cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide to the mixture. Make sure you are using the right percentage! Do not substitute for others.
Be careful not to spill the hydrogen peroxide. This could be a messy addition to the recipe.
Step 4
Mix all of the ingredients well. Make sure the baking soda and dish soap have dissolved into the liquid. This is important for an even wash.
Step 5
Wearing rubber gloves, apply the solution all over your dog’s body. Do not get this in his eyes or ears.
Once the solution is saturated into his fur, prepare to rinse him immediately. You do not want to accidentally bleach his fur!
Step 6
Using warm water, rinse the solution out of your dog’s fur. Make sure there are no clumps left, as this may be harmful to your dog.
Step 7
Once the solution is fully rinsed, use a moisturizing shampoo to soothe your dog’s skin. Choose a scent you enjoy, like our Cedar Pine Shampoo. This will be a breath of fresh air after smelling skunk all day!
Step 8
Dry off your dog and keep him away from skunks!
We hope this recipe helped get rid of your dog’s skunk smell!
