This Man Was Caught Abusing His Dog And These Ladies Showed Up At His Court Date To Remind Him

These doggy heroes showed up at this dog abuser's court trial to remind him of his crimes, and even posted pictures to prove it! #JusticeForMeatball

Friends of the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue attended a trial this week for a man accused of abusing his dog, Meatball, to remind him of the horrific event, which was all caught on video tape.

For those of you, who haven’t heard the original story of Meatball, the abused mastiff mix, here is his sad truth.

In February of 2016, Meatball, a beautiful mastiff mix from Eastpointe, MI, was suffering from severe physical abuse by his owner, John Anthony Sporer. Luckily, a neighbor, named Tim England, saw the horrific scene, and captured a video of Sporer repeatedly slamming Meatball’s head into a brick wall. This abuse continued for minutes before Sporer released the dog. England called both police and animal control, but received no help. Unsatisfied with the lack of action taken to save this dog’s life, he contacted the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, and posted the video online. Within five days of the initial incident, the video had gone viral, and authorities removed Meatball from Sporer’s home. Sporer had fled the scene, but later turned himself in for arrest.

Meatball was transported to a local veterinarian, where he received treatment for his head injuries. He has since recovered, and will not be returned to Sporer’s home.

No one knows how long Meatball had been abused for, but veterinarians were concerned with the swelling in his head. Meatball recovered in their capable hands.

John Sporer was released on bail shortly after he was arrested in February. His trial commenced this week, where he was met by a group of fans, but not in the way he would have imagined.  Friends of the Detroit Pit Crew Rescue team attended the trial in support of Meatball, and to remind Sporer of his horrible actions.

Meatball supporters were clad in shirts that read “Justice For Meatball,” and held signs up in the courtroom. Some even took photos of a seemingly disgruntled John Sporer, as well as multiple “selfies” with the man in the background while he awaited trial.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue published these photos on social media, where they received many comments of support from their 150,000+ following.

I pray that the justice system does the right thing in putting this monster behind bars for what he did to Meatball. Justice needs to be served. I hope that Meatball can finally have a happy life with a family that will love him forever.” – Lynda Merillo

John Sporer faces criminal charges of animal abuse, and torturing animals, which are punishable by up to four years in prison.

Meatball’s supporters wore shirts stating “Justice For Meatball,” as well as waved signs in the courtroom.

The next hearing will be held on August 22nd – for those who wish to attend, please contact Detroit Pit Crew to show your support!

We all hope and pray that justice will be served for poor Meatball’s suffering, and that he finds a home where he will be loved and treated with kindness.

Once again, something has to go viral BEFORE any PD and ACO does anything!! 5 days is too long a wait!

    • We agree that 5 days is much too long of a wait. Lucky for Meatball, the dedicated people behind Detroit Pit Crew took action and removed him from his abuser.
Thank you for taking the time to read this article and share your thoughts!
