A stray pit bull earned the name “Hero” last week when he rescued a complete stranger from her attacker in Georgia, TN.
The 75lb pit bull was wandering the streets when he heard an altercation break out between a man and a woman. The woman was being assaulted, clearly in distress. Hero lunged at her assailant, who quickly pulled out his knife, stabbing the dog in his chest several times.

Hero collapsed on the ground, losing mass amounts of blood from his wounds. When police arrived at the scene, Hero was barely alive.
Running out of time, the officers acted quickly, locating a vet that would be able to help Hero after-hours. He was rushed into the operating room, where he died twice during surgery.
“He collapsed several times,” said Carla Welch, founder of Fighting For The Bullys. “His gums were white, which meant that almost all of his blood was gone.“

Miraculously, Hero hadn’t lost all of his strength fighting bad guys. He pulled through, surviving the surgery, and earning his second chance at life.
The officers brought Hero to a pit bull rescue in Knoxville after his operation, where he was welcomed with open arms. Fighting For The Bullys has been caring for Hero during his recovery, and say he goes for checkups every day to monitor his health.
After spending years on the streets, they believe that Hero is finally ready to find his forever home.

“Hero will get his second chance,” said Carla.
This sweet faced boy is roughly 7 years old, 75lbs, and a pro at giving kisses! He loves all people, and is proving to be a great family dog. If you have room for a hero in your life, please contact Fighting For The Bullys.
“He will get a fantastic family, and he will finally get his happily ever after.”
A crowdfunding campaign via YouCaring has been created by Hero’s supporters, in order to pay for his medical costs.
The page has raised more than $2,000!
